O Mets placed Kodai Senga on the 15-day IL with a strained left calf on Saturday after the starting pitcher suffered the injury in Friday Night Win Over the Atlanta Braves in the sixth inning.
Manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters that Senga’s injury is a serious strain and “it’s fair to say he’s pretty much ready for the regular season.”
Senga dazzled in his highly anticipated 2024 season debut, allowing two runs on two hits with nine strikeouts in 5.1 innings before fouling out.
The injury occurred near the mound when Senga moved out of the way to Pedro Alonso to make the play and fell to the ground while clutching his calf. He then got up on his own and went straight to the locker room.
