The Mets bolstered their bullpen with acquiring right-handed Ryne Stanek in a trade with the Seattle Mariners on Friday, and it appears more reinforcements could arrive soon.

According to the manager Carlos Mendozaright Reed Garrett “felt good” after his second bullpen session, and the captain confirmed that Garrett will face live hitters on Wednesday before potentially beginning a rehab assignment on Friday.

“He’s getting there,” Mendoza said. “It was good to see him take the mound. He threw all his pitches, his fastball was really good and most importantly he felt good. Then he’ll face hitters on Wednesday, and two days later, hopefully, he’ll be on a rehab assignment. This is a good sign.”

Mendoza said the Mets will have to see how Garrett, who was placed on the IL on July 10 with right elbow inflammation, reacts to facing live hitters before the club can determine a potential return date for the 31-year-old.

Sean Reid-Foley begins his rehabilitation mission

Right-handed companion Sean Reid-Foley begins his rehab assignment on Sunday as he is scheduled to play for the High-A Brooklyn Cyclones.

Reid-Foley has been on the IL since June 22 due to a right shoulder injury, but he has been great this season when healthy, pitching to a 1.66 ERA in 23 games.
