Red Sox acquire reliever Lucas Sims in trade with Reds originally appeared in NBC Sports Boston
The Boston Red Sox entered the MLB trade deadline looking for bullpen help and are already adding in that category.
The Red Sox acquired right-handed reliever Lucas Sims from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for minor league right-hander Ovis Portes the team confirmed Tuesday.
Sims, 30, has a 3.57 ERA with 40 strikeouts in 35.1 innings for Cincinnati this season. Portes, 19, was most recently with the Single-A Salem Red Sox in the Boston organization.
Lucas Sims appears to be a prime candidate for some Andrew Bailey adjustments. Consistently limits high contact, but works at 5/9 IP. It relies on a broom, but this year it added a mower that has been effective in limited use. Former No. 1 prospect for the Braves.
