The Yankees didn’t get any initial help at the trade deadline, but reinforcements could still arrive soon.

Talking to reporters before Wednesday’s series finale against the Phillies in Philadelphia, manager Aaron Boone told reporters that both incumbents Clark Schmidt and reliever Ian Hamilton will face live hitters once they continue their pitching progression.

Schmidt suffered a final strain in late May, cutting short what had been an excellent start for the right-hander. In 11 starts this season, the 28-year-old pitched to a 2.52 ERA with a 1.137 WHIP, tying his career high with 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings.

Hamilton, also dealing with a side strain, hasn’t pitched since June 6. In 27 starts this season, the right-handed pitcher has a 4.55 ERA and a 1.584 WHIP.

The Yankees looked to add starting pitching before Tuesday’s trade deadline. They were linked to the Detroit Tigers starter Jack Flaherty, but reportedly withdrew from the bid due to medical concerns about the right-hander. Instead, Flaherty landed with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
