Mets release LHP Jake Diekman

O Mets officially launched a left-handed reliever Jake Diekmanannounced the team on Saturday.

Diekman’s release comes just days after the Mets designated the left-hander for assignment on July 29.

The Mets signed Diekman in the offseason after he spent his first 12 seasons with eight other teams, including the Phillies, Rangers, Athletics, White Sox, Royals, Diamondbacks, Red Sox and Rays.

Diekman, 37, has had an up-and-down year with the Mets. After a solid April, Diekman was great in May, posting a 2.89 ERA that month. He pitched to a 6.75 ERA in June and these struggles persisted into July despite his epic save against the Yankees on July 23.

The Mets’ decision on Diekman came as the team has restructured its bullpen with trade acquisitions, including Phil Maton, Huascar Brazoban, Ryne Stanek It is Tyler Zuber.
