Gilbert has had a tough time since returning from a long stint on the injured list, going just 6-for-29 (.207) with one RBI in eight games. The young slugger opened August by reaching base three times, including a pair of doubles, so perhaps he can get things going to close out the season.
Clifford hit a bit of a skid after his tremendous stretch at the plate, recording just one hit and striking out seven times in his last 18 at-bats. The young recently spoke with SNY’s Joe DeMayo about his impressive rise as a prospect, as he posted an .835 OPS with 13 home runs, 16 doubles, 38 RBI and 42 walks in Double-A.
Acuna has missed the last four games after being eliminated from Thursday’s lineup due to a sore foot. The speedster was hitting hard before that, hitting .289 with three extra-base hits and six RBI in the last few games on July 10. He is slashing .262/.311/.357 with five homers, five triples, 14 doubles, 37 RBI and 31 stolen bases on the season.
Sproat continues to dominate his way through the organization, en route to a career-best performance to earn a promotion to Syracuse. The right-hander struck out a total of 13 batters, 11 of which were consecutive, in five shutout innings this weekend. If he can continue pitching like this during his first few starts at Triple-A, he could be a factor for the big league club this season.
Tong has settled in after a rough start following his promotion to Brooklyn, and he put in another strong effort this week, allowing just two runs and striking out 10 in 5.1 innings of work. The young right-hander now has an impressive 2.60 ERA and 1.12 WHIP, with 124 punches in 19 starts this season.
Parada has been on a roll since the beginning of July, hitting .293 with five doubles, three home runs, eight RBI, a .391 on-base percentage and .871 OPS in 23 games. The backstop put together five multi-hit showings in that span, but also struck out 29 times.
Vasil had a bit of a rough performance on Sunday, but he had one of his best outings of the year earlier this week, allowing just one run on four hits while walking two and striking out eight in seven innings. He has moved up from sixth place in six of his last eight starts and has recorded five quality games in that time.
UTL Lucas Ritter
Ritter has been tearing the ball up all season and has been hot lately, hitting .345 with four doubles, two triples, five homers, 24 RBI and a 1.067 OPS in 26 games. The 26-year-old still wants to make his big league debut and is making a very strong case, with 26 home runs that lead all Mets minor leaguers.
