CONOR MCGREGOR could end his bitter rivalry with Khabib Nurmagomedov once and for all – if he faces his long-time rival’s protégé.

The duo participated in the UFC’s biggest fight history almost six years ago, after one of the promotion’s worst pre-fight preparations.

Nurmagomedov, who retired from MMA in October 2020, won the grudge match by submission in the fourth round, but the feud remains.

McGregor, 36, has taken several shots at the Russian on social media in recent years, leading many to wonder if the hatchet will ever be buried.

Nurmagomedov’s good friend and former training partner Daniel Cormier believes there’s a chance ‘The Eagle’ will put his dislike for McGregor behind him – if The Notorious faces the current lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.

The former two-division champion said in the last episode of Good guy, bad guy: “He just hates Khabib.

“He hates him… They’re not letting it go.

“It’s deeply rooted, but it’s deeply rooted on both sides, honestly… [Khabib] Don’t like this guy, bro.

“They don’t like each other. That’s crazy. It really is. It’s profound.

“It’s very deep, but I think the closest thing you would get to a resolution would be, again, Conor winning [Michael Chandler] and then gaining a championship fights against Islam Makhachev, right?”

With more sides to his personality than an octagon, Conor McGregor’s rise has been fascinating.

Makhechev, who was trained by Nurmagomedov’s late father and coach Abdulamanap, has already revealed he is open to sharing the octagon with McGregor.

And Cormier believes Nurmagomedov would take comfort in the Dagestan destroyer attacking his old enemy.

EXCLUSIVE: Conor McGregor eyes UFC return in December against Michael Chandler at UFC 310 after toe injury

‘DC’ continued: “So Khabib could probably try to find some comfort in that and Conor could actually try to find redemption in trying to beat the guy who became the guy, right?

“So there are stories there.

” I don’t know [if] This is because Michael Chandler can’t seem to get a date.”

McGregor was expected to return to the Octagon in June in a long-awaited showdown with Chandler.

But Mac’s return was postponed after he broke the little toe on his left foot in one of his final sparring sessions before fight night.

It is understood that the promotion is scheduled for December 14 to the Irishrescheduled return.

And in an exclusive interview with SunSport, The Notorious revealed that he enjoys wrapping up the UFC’s pay-per-view schedule.

The UFC’s first simultaneous two-weight world champion told SunSport: “That looks good to me.

“That sounds good to me, brother.”
