LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Jonathan Diniz[/autotag] wants the matchmakers to find their match in the heavyweight division later UFC on ESPN 61.
Diniz (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) added to his unblemished record on Saturday by earning a unanimous decision victory over Karl Williams (10-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) at the UFC Apex. It was the first time in his career that he was on the scoreboard and it was valuable experience for the Brazilian.
“I’m very happy because I proved to everyone that I’m ready to fight the grappler, against the striker,” Diniz told MMA Junkie and other reporters after the fight at UFC on ESPN 61. “I don’t care who I meet. someone strong enough to fight me for three rounds, I will hurt them for three rounds.
Diniz, 33, has proven to have heavy hands inside the cage and now knows he can play with them for 15 minutes. For him, this warrants a step up in the competition, and he thinks he’s ready for some serious names in his weight class.
With two victories already accumulated in 2024, Diniz is looking for a hat-trick. He would like to return at UFC 309, which will take place on November 16th at Madison Square Garden in New York. Heavyweight champion Jon Jones is expected to defend against Stipe Miocic in the main attraction of that card, and Diniz sees this as an excellent opportunity to fight a contender-level name and show where he stands.
“I think November will be a very good time to come back and fight,” said Diniz. “I know they have a big event with Jones and Miocic, and why not? I’m ready to fight in New York. Against who? I don’t know. Who’s the most dangerous guy in my division? Just bring that name up and I want to prove it.” to everyone that I’m ready to fight against the big names.”
