Coach Paulino Hernandez confident that Jorge Masvidal has Nate Diaz’s number: ‘We will win by knockout’

MIAMI – Jorge Masvidal and the company are confident as they move into a new but also familiar challenge.

Paulino HernandezMasvidal’s longtime striking coach firmly believes Masvidal will shine in his return to boxing when he faces Nate Diaz in a 10-round boxing match on June 1 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.

This will be Masvidal’s first fight in professional boxing since his debut in 2005. It will also be the second time that Masvidal will face Diaz, as the two competed in MMA at UFC 244 in 2019 – a fight that Masvidal won via TKO to crown himself the inaugural BMF champion.

Hernandez believes these two things will be key to Masvidal’s success.

“Jorge has boxed before, so he already has some experience,” Hernandez told MMA Junkie in Spanish. “He fought once in boxing and won.

“I think Jorge has Nate Diaz’s number. They know each other and he knows what he brings. They are boxing, which is different because there are no elbows, knees or kicks. It’s just his hands, but Jorge is great with his hands. He is well prepared and we are confident that we will win.”

Masvidal plans to compete twice more in boxing after the Diaz fight. He also told MMA Junkie that a return to the UFC is definitely in his future.

Hernandez is confident that Masvidal will start this comeback on the right foot, and that means taking out the always tough Diaz.

“We will win by knockout.”
