Conor McGregor stated that he will do his UFC return in December, in response to Dana White comment that “The Notorious” wouldn’t fight until next year.

At a press conference for White’s Series of competitorsthe UFC chief executive told journalists that he had been in contact with McGregor, but that the Irishman “will not fight this year”.

“We talked,” White said. “We haven’t met, but we’ve talked, and yes, he wants to fight.

“Then let’s find out. [But] not this year. He’s not going to fight this year,” she added.

And in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, McGregor responded to White, stating: “Ah Dana, December is the date!

“Bring the calendar home with a winning event! Come on, what is this? I’m going to altitude next month to prepare.

“DECEMBER! Tell Dana and the UFC WE WANT DECEMBER! WE DESERVE DECEMBER!”

McGregor has not fought in the UFC since July 2021, when he broke his leg at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier, and his scheduled comeback fight against Michael Chandler in June was canceled just two weeks before it was scheduled to take place.

McGregor later revealed that his decision to pull out was due to a broken toe, and the rescheduled fight date has not been confirmed since.

There has been a lot of speculation about the fight since then, with Chandler claiming he was offered a shot at the lightweight title currently held by Islam Makhachev, and McGregor claiming his foot is fully healed before deleting the post on X.

However, options for a main event at any point this year are closing quickly, with Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway recently confirmed to headline UFC 308 on October 26, and heavyweight champion Jon Jones likely to headline from UFC 309 in November. However, that leaves a December fight at UFC 310 in Las Vegas as a possibility for McGregor.

UFC 305 takes place this Saturday, with Israel Adesanya seeking to regain his middleweight title against Dricus Du Plessis.
