In a statement on Ngannou’s X account, he wrote: “It’s too early to leave, but he’s gone.

“My little boy, my partner, my partner Kobe was full of life and joy.

“How do you deal with something like that? How can you live with this?

“Please help me if you have any ideas because I really don’t know what to do and how to deal with this.”

He had previously written in X: “What is the point of life if what we are fighting tooth and nail to escape is what finally hits us the hardest!?

“Why is life so unfair and merciless? Why does life always take away what we don’t have?

Little is known about Ngannou’s personal life and it is unclear who the child’s mother is.

Fans were quick to share their well wishes for the boxer amid the shocking news.

Fellow UFC star Conor McGregor wrote: “I’m so sorry to hear of your loss Francis, my prayers are with you and your family at this time.”

A fellow well-wisher wrote: “No parent should have to go through this My deepest condolences.”

Another fan wrote: “I’m so sorry for your loss – unimaginable ”

Ngannou was UFC heavyweight champion between 2020 and 2023 before leaving to pursue a career in boxing.

This caused him to give Tyson Fury a huge scare in October last year, when he knocked the Brit down in the fifth round – before losing on points.

This is despite the fight being Ngannou’s first professional boxing fight.

His training led to him forming a close relationship with boxing legend Mike Tyson, who prepared him for his fight against the Gypsy King.

He lost to Anthony Joshua in his second professional fight last month.

Ngannou experienced an incredible rise to martial arts stardom after facing extreme poverty in his hometown of Batie, Cameroon.

At the age of nine, he started working in a sand mine alongside his 11-year-old brother to support the family.

He moved from Cameroon to France at age 26, without a penny to his name, to pursue a career in boxing.

After initially becoming homeless after moving to Europe, he met coach Didier Carmont, who let him train and sleep for free at the boxing gym.

Here, he discovered MMA for the first time, which made him one of the biggest names in the history of the sport.
