JORGE MASVIDAL has revealed he won $5 million against Kamaru Usman – but the pay is nothing compared to what boxing stars earn.

The UFC called up Masvidal on less than a week’s notice in July 2020 after Gilbert Burns tested positive for coronavirus.

Thus, he was able to negotiate a new agreement that included pay-per-view bonus payments.

He said DJ Vlad: “Six days before the fight, the other route they took gets corona.

“And now the UFC calls me and they need someone who can fill in six days in advance, fly around the world and cut 20 kilos of water in those six days and fight for the world title.

“There’s only one motherfucker in the whole world who could get that call for the bat signal, and that’s this guy right here.

“But I had to get paid, and I had to get paid very well for doing it.

“So they gave in to all my demands that I had, you know. That was one of the fights where I made the most money, period.

“Since we ended up selling less than 1.3 million pay-per-views, if I hadn’t closed that deal with the UFC, I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere near five million.

“I would have sold the same amount and it wouldn’t have come close to five million and I would have felt like I was taken advantage of.”

Masvidal was defeated on points, but the fight proved to be a success at the height of the global lockdown.

He was knocked out by Usman, 36, in the rematch and went on to lose his last four UFC fights.

‘I’d kick your fucking kneecap’, angers Jorge Masvidal in response to ‘coward’ Jake Paul’s $10 million MMA fight offer

Masvidal now returns on June 1st to rematch Nate Diaz – who he beat at UFC 244 in 2019 – in the boxing ring.

And after the revelation of the American’s PPV grant, the reporter Lucas Tomás highlighted the large salary difference between UFC and boxing stars.

Errol Spence Jr, 34, and Terence Crawford, 36, were paid around $25 million for their superfight last June.

This is despite supposedly selling HALF the amount of PPVs at 650,000.

The UFC has long faced criticism from the likes of YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul for its salary structure.

And fans also reacted after Masvidal’s PPV confession, as one said: “Just 5 million for 1.3 million PPV sold is criminal.”

Another added: “They made 100 million in ppv sales and he got 5, that’s crazy.”
