Bellator bantamweight champion Uneven mixing has a chip on his shoulder.
Mix (19-1) defends his title in a rematch against Magomed Magomedov (20-3) in the main event of Bellator Champions Series: Paris (Max) Friday at the Accor Arena in Paris. Mix submitted Magomedov in his first fight, which took place in the semifinals of the Bellator Bantamweight Grand Prix in December 2022.
Mix is confident he’s the best 135-pound fighter in the sport, but doesn’t think he’ll get the credit he deserves. The 30-year-old has won 15 of his 19 professional victories and thinks Sean O’Malley receives more praise for being UFC champion.
“I have the most submissions in bantamweight history, I have the most submissions in bantamweight history and I can be considered the best bantamweight champion in Bellator history. But for some reason I don’t get the respect that O’Malley gets,” Mix told MMA Junkie Radio.
“Even though he’s 18-1 and is smaller than me in records and finishes, I can’t seem to get the respect. So I think that’s what motivates me every day: waking up and proving that I’m as dominant as I believe I am.”
Mix has one loss under his belt, which came in a title fight against Juan Archuleta in September 2020. Mix thinks an unbeaten record would probably make people look at him in a better light.
“I never finished. My loss is very close,” said Mix. “I’m one round away from being undefeated. The only guy who hit me, he kind of survived. Nobody ever broke up with me. I’ve never really had anyone come close.”
