Ariane Carnelossi says he suffered several facial injuries as a result of his UFC 241 Fight Night fight against Piera Rodriguez.
The fight ended in disqualification due to multiple illegal headbutts by Rodriguez (9-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) and Carnelossi (14-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) was declared the winner. The strawweight fight took place on Saturday, at the UFC Apex, in Las Vegas, and generated reactions from the MMA world.
Some viewers expressed thoughts online that Carnelossi had taken advantage of the doctor’s walkout that occurred after the two illegal hits — an accusation Rodriguez also repeated on Saturday.
Rodriguez said Carnelossi lied and called her a “coward.”
However, Carnelossi revealed on Saturday that she was diagnosed with a fractured nose and injury to her zygomatic (cheek) bone. She also slightly analyzed the thought processes of the detractors.
“Hey guys, we just got back from the hospital and we’re already at the hotel,” Carnelossi wrote in a Instagram Story. “After some tests, a fracture in the nose and injury to the zygomatic bone and formation of a blood clot in the sinus region were found. Thank you to EVERYONE who sent me positive messages. In relation to our sport, what people need to understand is that what often differentiates humans from animals are the RULES.”
It is unclear whether Carnelossi suffered these injuries during the headbutt sequence or whether he suffered previous blows. She absorbed several blows, including a hard front kick before the finishing sequence.
