Dustin Poirier is ruling out the possibility of a fourth fight with Conor McGregor.
Poirier (30-8 MMA, 22-7 UFC) beat McGregor 2-1 – being stopped in his first featherweight fight in 2014, and then scoring TKO victories in his next two lightweight fights at UFC 257 and UFC 264.
However, with their trilogy in July 2021 ending in a TKO via doctor’s stoppage due to McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) breaking his leg in the final seconds of the first round, “The Notorious” declared that their rivalry it’s not about.
Poirier doesn’t feel the same way.
“I think that ship has sailed,” Poirier said ESPN. “All I want is the UFC lightweight title.”
Poirierm, who lost two previous title attempts, will challenge lightweight champion Islam Makhachev (25-1 MMA, 14-1 UFC) in the main event of UFC 302 on June 1 at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
McGregor returns for the first time since breaking his leg against Poirier when he faces Michael Chandler in the main event of UFC 303 on June 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
While many fighters criticize McGregor, Poirier remains focused on capturing the gold. UFC 264 ended with an injured McGregor hurling insults at Poirier’s wife, but “The Diamond” isn’t interested in reigniting their history.
“I don’t feel the need to fight him again,” Poirier said. “I don’t need this (bad) energy in my life.”
