CONOR MCGREGOR could end up facing a former UFC champion if Michael Chandler pulls out of the fight.
The Irish will be welcomed back to the Octagon by his fellow fan favorite on June 29th in the main event of UFC 303 in Las Vegas.
MMA’s premier promotion has yet to announce a replacement for the blockbuster showdown.
The identity of the reserve fighter, if any, will likely be revealed during Fight Week.
Although former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has thrown his hat into the ring should an injury happen to Chandler.
He told the All Stars: “You think I’m an exciting fight, maybe at lightweight or something, it’s fun.
“I don’t want to wait too long.
“I mean, I told myself I wouldn’t do it, but to take advantage of a great opportunity, because I know the featherweight will be there, against Conor McGregor, I would probably still do it.
“You just put that scenario in there, maybe I’ll do it.”
McGregor and Volkanovski, both 35, have a history back and forth on social media, with the former labeling the latter a “sausage” last year.

Volkanovski last saw action in February at UFC 298, where he lost the featherweight title to Ilia Topuria via a brutal second-round knockout.
McGregor, meanwhile, hasn’t set foot in the Octagon since breaking his left leg in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
The former two-weight world champion has undergone meticulous rehabilitation to get in shape for his long-awaited return to the Octagon.
And he plans to get back to winning ways by landing his once-broken shin on Chandler’s dome.
In a recent interview with James CordenHe said, “I’m the Terminator now.
“I have a titanium rod that goes up to the knee and down to the bone, to the ankle.
“It’s unbreakable.
“I want and will work to land that kick – with that steel bar on my leg – against an opponent and get them out.”
