Amid the withdrawal of the biggest star in MMA history on a day that saw the UFC lose three big fights, Alexandre Pereira got caught in the storm of the news cycle.
With Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler ruled out, Pereira (10-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) vs. Jiri Prochazka (30-4-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) was announced as the new main event on June 29th for UFC 303 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Pereira acknowledged the risk associated with a last-minute fight, but expressed faith in his abilities.
“I understand that this fight is very close and there may be difficulties with preparation time, BUT if there is anyone who can make this happen it is me! POATÃO!
“That’s why I’m one of the biggest names in the UFC Alex Pereira!!! I take risks that no other person would be willing to take, but I know that I have my ancestors with me. The spirits are with me and I am ready for anything.”
Pereira, 36, is 3-0 at light heavyweight in the UFC. After a divisional debut victory over Jan Blachowicz, Pereira defeated Prochazka in the UFC 295 by technical knockout in the second round. He returned in April at UFC 300 and defeated Jamahal Hill by technical knockout in the first round.
