Jamahal Hillthe withdrawal of the once planned UFC 303 the co-main event against Carlos Ulberg was more than assured.
Former light heavyweight champion Hill (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) pulled out of his scheduled showdown with Ulberg (9-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) on June 29 in Las Vegas as part of a major overhaul in the lineup that served as a chain reaction following the cancellation of Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler.
Hill, who was looking for a quick turnaround in his UFC 300 loss of main event for Alex Pereira, who came on the heels of a quick recovery from a ruptured Achilles tendon, revealed that a series of injuries led him to step aside.
According to Hill, he suffered two meniscus tears in one of his knees, a sprained ACL and a Baker’s cyst that required significant drainage. He issued a statement sharing the details Friday on social media (via Instagram):
2 tears in my meniscus, sprained my ACL, a Baker’s cyst that leaked fluid into the back of my knee, and an infusion in some joints!!! In fact, there were 3 of them. This is only making me hungrier. I’ll be back soon!!!
Despite the difficult setback, Hill, 33, seemed to remain in good spirits about his future as a fighter.
