And after a period of silence, McGregor took to social media to reveal that a broken toe suffered during training had forced his retirement.

Just days later, the former UFC champion was at the famous 3Arena in Dublin to corner his teammate and good friend Sinead Kavanagh.

Kavanagh was defeated by Arlene Blencowe at Bellator Dublin with McGregor in her corner for the fight.

McGregor, wearing a gray tracksuit with a vest underneath, was seen playing to the crowd as he received a heroes’ welcome.

The 35-year-old UFC legend hasn’t fought since July 2021, when he broke his leg against 35-year-old Dustin Poirier.

He gained a reputation during his meteoric rise for battling injuries and never giving up.

But with so much at stake in his return, McGregor insisted he could not take the risk of fighting the injured Chandler, 38.

He wrote: “It takes a few weeks. I couldn’t justify to my team, or to the fans, that I made the journey difficult again.

“That’s it. Learn your lesson and move on. I’ll get this back. I have too. I still have two fights left on my contract.

“I have Bugattis and more yachts in mind. I’m coming to shine. I just need to take my time.

“Because I still have yachts and Bentleys and mansions and everything else.

“But you understand me, I’ll be back. See you soon. See you at the top. Chandler or not.”
