Johnny Walker is back home, spending time with his family after a brutal knockout loss on Saturday to Volkan Oezdemir in UFC on ABC 6 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The knockout defeat was Walker’s second in as many matches and he admits it has made him rethink what changes he can make to avoid a third run.
“I’m fine. Just a little scratch on my lips,” Walker said in a video posted to his Instagram account on Sunday. “…I just got home with my little champion. It wasn’t a very good night for me. I don’t know what happened. I’ll have to figure it out and watch the fights again and see what I did. I think I didn’t feel in the right place for the fight. felt very strong. Everything was good.
“The (weight) cut was a little difficult, but as always. I just didn’t find myself there in the fight. But the most important thing is here, my little baby. I returned safely to him. I will take care of him and come back stronger. I’m going to spend time with my family, enjoy my wife, my baby. … I will come back stronger.”
Walker (21-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC) was brutalized by a series of punches from Oezdemir that ended the fight at 2:28 of the first round. Walker sat on the stool for Bruce Buffer’s final decision to be read, as his nose gushed blood.
