Conor McGregor vs. Jorge Masvidaldespite its lucrative potential, it is unlikely to happen, according to the latter.

“He never mentioned my name,” Masvidal told MMA Junkie Radio on Monday. “He’s never approached me, just to say stupid things or something, but he’s never talked about a fight with me or anything like that because he’s too scared.

“If we can’t get him in the cage with a guy he’s convinced he can beat, what the hell is going to get him in the cage with me?”

McGregor was scheduled to return on June 29 against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in Las Vegas. However, he withdrew from the fight due to a broken toe. McGregor is expected to fight later this year.

Masvidal thinks the possibility of a fight against McGregor is slim to none. ‘Gamebred’, who returns to action on July 6 in a boxing match against Nate Diaz, thinks McGregor sees him as a stylistic nightmare.

“He knows I’m not going to take him down. I’m not going to stifle him or seek submission,” Masvidal said. “I’m going to beat him up. From the time the bell rings until the end, I’m going to beat him up standing up. He knows that with Nate Diaz he took a beating in the first one and in the second one (I thought) he lost too. I really can’t stand Nate Diaz that much, but you can’t take that away from him. He beat Conor for two and a half rounds or more, round 3, 4, 5. He beat Conor and this guy couldn’t do anything to me. Even when (Nate) punched me, it was like a mosquito bite to me. I walked past that thing, gave it some heat, and put it down.

“I think Conor looks at these things and thinks, ‘Man, this guy is as bad as they come and athletic. I don’t want to be part of this guy. He’s going to take me out of the game the way I don’t want to be taken out.”

Despite thinking the fight will never come to fruition, Masvidal still thinks a fight with McGregor would be a box office success if it did happen.

“The UFC tried to make this fight happen and Conor doesn’t want it,” Masvidal said. “He doesn’t want the damn fight. He never mentions my name, but we are the biggest fight possible. Do you think Michael Chandler outsells me against Conor? Nobody in their right mind thinks that. … I’ve been one of the biggest UFC pay-per-view attractions for the last five six years. Of course we would break records, but this guy isn’t going to do that. … In my future, I don’t see that fight happening unless I run into him in a parking lot.”

Masvidal returns on July 6 to face Nate Diaz in a boxing match at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Fãmio pay per view. O
