UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards he thinks Belal Muhammad It’s above your head.
Edwards (21-3 MMA, 13-2 UFC) defends his title in a rematch against Muhammad (23-3 MMA, 14-3 UFC) in the UFC 304 headliner on July 27 at Co-op Live in Manchester , England. Both Edwards and Muhammad are undefeated in double digits. The only asterisk on their streak is a no-contest fight against each other in March 2021 – a fight that was ruled a no-contest after Edwards inadvertently poked Muhammad in the eye and left him unable to continue.
Muhammad made some bold claims ahead of the rematch, but Edwards isn’t sure where he’s getting his confidence from.
“Deluded, he’s talking a lot of shit, so make sure you can back it up,” said Edwards Red Corner MMA. “Like I said, he’s been away for over a year. The way he talks is like he’s winning the first fight, so a little deluded. But like I said, he better be ready. It will be a long, hard, difficult fight for him in Manchester.”
In his first fight, Edwards managed to trip Muhammad early, winning the first round on all three judges’ scores. The poke happened just 18 seconds into the second round, and Muhammad is convinced that their first fight cannot be indicative of how things would have gone.
But Edwards thinks otherwise.
“Like I said, the first round fight was comfortable for me,” Edwards said. “I was just starting out and then I got poked in the eye. Obviously he hurt him in the first round. I feel like it will be too slow for me. Too slow, too predictable, too boring. So let’s see.”
