LAS VEGAS – André Fili apparently expected his Saturday work shift to be a little different than it was.
Instead, Fili (24-11 MMA, 12-10 UFC) found himself in a 15-minute battle that appeared when he came away with a unanimous decision victory over fellow longtime UFC featherweight Cub Swanson (29- 14 MMA, 14-10 UFC) at UFC 303 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
“The first round went exactly as I expected,” Fili said in a post-fight press conference. “He wanted to fight and I thought: ‘No, let’s have a good, technical and clean fight. With this, I will win.
“Then he insisted more that we would fight in the second and third. And I still won the fight, but that guy is really good at pulling you into an aerial fight. He’s known for this and I was surprised at how well he did it. He pulled me into a fight and I still won the fight. But I mean, it’s Cub Swanson – he’s good at what he does.”
