Who is Lee Murray?

Lee Brahim Murray-Lamrani, born November 12, 1977, is an Anglo-Moroccan former UFC fighter turned convicted bank robber.

Murray fought once in the main MMA promotion almost twenty years ago – facing Jorge Rivera at UFC 43.

The Brit achieved his only victory in the Octagon with a triangle choke in the first round.

A few months later, Murray suffered a unanimous decision loss to UFC legend and future hall of famer Anderson Silva.

He also once showed up to an MMA fight dressed as the notorious Hannibal Lecter.

The hardman was stabbed during a fight at Towie star Lauren Pope’s birthday party at Funky Buddha nightclub in 2005, seemingly ending his UFC career.

But Murray plans to open a gym once he gets out of prison, hopes to get another Octagon appearance and even has his sights set on winning the UFC title.

Where is Lee Murray now?

The Securitas warehouse robbery in Tonbridge in February 2006 was the UK’s biggest cash robbery.

Murray is currently behind bars in Tifelt, northwest Morocco.

Despite being incarcerated, he fathered a son in prison in 2010.

Starting with the kidnapping of a bank manager on the night of February 21, 2006, it ended in the early hours of February 22 with the seven criminals involved escaping with a fortune.

But Murray was arrested in Morocco four months later and was initially sentenced to ten years in prison – although his sentence was later increased to 25 years.

Murray was convicted of the conspiracy along with his team – Lea Rusha, Emir Hysenaj, Jetmir Bucpapa, Stuart Royle, Roger Coutts and Paul Allen – the last of whom narrowly survived being shot in the throat by comedian Russell Kane in 2019.

“I am who I am today and I am happy as I am today.

“At that time I was a wild man. I didn’t think. I didn’t think straight.

“I didn’t think about the future. I didn’t think about the future. The way I think now is totally different.”

While he didn’t change his actions, Murray admits that prison gave him a different perspective on life.

He said: “In prison you see what is important in life.

“During this period I had my youngest son, Lorenzo, and also my wife Nicola and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.

“And as for my other children, you know I wasn’t there for them. You know I was just lying at the time.

“I think being in prison, I’m learning from my mistakes and I think that will benefit them when I’m released and I can be with them.

“I feel sorry for the victims of the robbery. I hurt a lot of people.

“I also hurt my own family. I made them victims. I made a mistake.”
