PFL Africa has been officially launched.

PFL Africa joins PFL Europe and PFL MENA as part of the PFL regional leagues. PFL Africa will have a regular season followed by playoffs and is scheduled to launch in 2025, promotion officials announced on Wednesday morning. The best African fighters will compete, with all events based in Africa.

Serving as president of PFL Africa is a former UFC heavyweight champion Francisco Ngannouwho in May 2023 signed an agreement that gives him equity and leadership in the PFL.

“I am excited and honored to serve as President of PFL Africa, a league that will shape the foundation of African MMA,” Ngannou said in a statement. “As we have seen, there is a wealth of talent in Africa waiting for a global stage. I’m so proud to give back to my homeland and provide great content to a region with such a passionate and diverse fan base.”

Ngannou has yet to make his PFL debut in the cage. Since parting ways with the UFC in 2023, Ngannou has competed in boxing twice, losing to Tyson Fury by close decision, followed by a knockout loss to Anthony Joshua in March.
