UFC star Tracy Cortez cut her HAIR to gain weight to fight Rose Namajunas.
The pair headline a 125-pound flyweight bout at Ball Arena in Denver.
Cortez, 30, only agreed to intervene two weeks in advance after Maycee Barber, 26, withdrew.
Both could weigh a maximum of 126 pounds at Friday’s weigh-in, the day before their scheduled fight.
But Cortez was 1 pound overweight, so she cut off a lock of her hair and got back on the scale.
And it worked as the American reached the 126-pound limit to save the fight.
She said ESPN: “What was 0.5? I thought, ‘No hesitation. We’ll do whatever it takes. This is a great opportunity.'”
When Cortez returned for the ceremonial weigh-in, she did so holding the hair she cut earlier.
She was evidently emotional as Cortez cried on the scale before the fight.
Cortez is 11-1 in his career, currently on a ten-fight winning streak, having only lost in his MMA debut in 2017.
