Tracy Cortez She won’t let a loss stop her.
The UFC women’s flyweight is looking to get back to normal after her first loss in the UFC Octagon. Cortez (11-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC) lost a unanimous decision to Rose Namajunas (14-6 MMA, 11-5 UFC) in Saturday’s main event. UFC on ESPN 59 in Denver.
Cortez promises to come back stronger and she hopes to do so sooner rather than later.
“I want to go back there,” said Cortez ESPN. “The last time I (lost), I went on a killer streak and got better again. I’m not here to prove to the world, I’m here to prove myself.”
Cortez was originally not supposed to fight Namajunas on Saturday. She replaced an injured Maycee Barber at the last minute. The Mexican-American would have liked to have fought Namajunas under better circumstances, but she still got a lot out of the experience.
“I accepted two weeks in advance, unprepared, and gave everything I had,” Cortez said. “I know if I had a full training camp, prepared – I mean, my cardio was there – I think I would have done a lot better with a good game plan. I think I’ve proven that I can do five fives, you know. (I’m) looking forward to the next one.”
