The 54-year-old UFC boss was woken up by his wife Anne to tell him the news on a flight to Italy.

“This guy is almost 80 years old,” White said on The Pat McAfee Show. “The guy tried to blow his head off.

“And to have the reaction he had when he stood up, this guy has been my friend for 25 years, one of the greatest human beings I’ve ever met.

“He’s an unbelievable friend and is now forever America’s biggest badass.”

White said UFC star Conor McGregor was one of the first people to reach out to him after the shocking news.

“Obviously he’s a really close friend of mine and then I started freaking out and picked up my phone,” he added.

“I got about 350 texts so I was trying to figure out what was going on.

“Conor was one of the guys who reached out to me for support.

“Shooting the president, some of the things that were being said…this is a former president and a candidate!

“Imagine if someone shot [Joe] Biden, or [Barrack] Obama, or [Hillary] Clinton.

“Every American should be horrified by this. And upset and disgusted and angry.”

“It was an attack on the United States, that’s for sure, that’s how you should feel about it,” McAfee responded.

Trump was shot in the ear at a political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when lone gunman Thomas Crooks, 20, opened fire from a rooftop.

Moments after being shot in the ear, he stood up and punched the air, muttering “Fight, Fight, Fight!” along with the crowd.

John Thomas, a Republican strategist and communications professional, thinks the attack will all but guarantee victory in his bid for the White House in 2024.

Dozens of politicians and celebrities offered their support to the former president after he was reportedly grazed by gunfire at his rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.

President Biden held a brief press conference just after 8 p.m. ET. He said he looked forward to speaking with Trump.

“Look, there is no place in America for this kind of violence. It’s sick,” continued the president. “We cannot tolerate this.”

Vice President Harris said she was “relieved” that Trump was not seriously injured.

“Violence like this has no place in our nation,” she continued.

Former President Obama said on X: “There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy.

“While we still don’t know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump was not seriously injured and take this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics. recovery.

Donald Trump Jr. shared a photo of his father raising his fist moments after being shot with the caption: “He will never stop fighting to save America.”

Robert F. Kennedy Jr said, “Now is the time for every American who loves our country to turn away from division, renounce all violence, and unite in prayer for President Trump and his family.”

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said: “I fully support President Trump and hope for his speedy recovery.”

Britain’s new Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer turned to X to say: “I am shocked by the shocking scenes at President Trump’s rally and we send him and his family our best wishes.

“Political violence, in any form, has no place in our societies and my thoughts are with all the victims of this attack.”

Reform leader and newly elected MP Nigel Farage said it is a “miracle” that his friend is still alive.

Farage told Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips: “I was very upset when I heard the news last night, Donald Trump survived by a miracle, quite frankly.

“But one innocent man is dead, two are fighting for their lives in the hospital. It’s horrible, but somehow not surprising.”

Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson also offered his condolences to Trump and his family, saying it shows “the tragic fragility of democracy in the face of violence and irrationality”.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Zelensky, who has been targeted by assassins in the past, also said he was “horrified” by events in the US.

“This violence has no justification and has no place anywhere in the world. Violence should never prevail,” he said on X.

“I extend my best wishes to everyone who is horrified by this event. I wish America comes out of this stronger.”

He told The Sun: “Donald Trump has the momentum and confidence of the American people. He is nearly unstoppable, neither by a bullet nor by a political opponent.

“Trump was winning and was likely to win the previous November, and this now seals the deal.

“Trump met the moment.

“He projected power, strength and grace at a time when so many Americans are looking for a leader and a hero.

“Someone who will not back down against our foreign adversaries, someone who will never give up, and someone who will put the American people before themselves.”
