DANA WHITE announced that Leon Edwards will NOT have an immediate trilogy fight with Belal Muhammad.
The Brummie’s reign as UFC’s second UK champion came to a spectacular end in the main event of UFC 304 this morning.
Edwards was dominated by Muhammad’s suffocating fight for most of the five rounds on his way to a unanimous decision loss.
The 32-year-old hopes to be given an immediate chance at redemption, although White has rejected those plans.
At the post-fight press conference, he said: “Let him rest, we’re talking about other things now.”
When asked if Edwards’ performance was due to the card’s late start, White said, “I have no idea why he [lethargic].
“You’re going to have to ask Leon how he felt and what was going on.
“I know Belal was training with Khabib – so his performance was what you would expect.”
Edwards appeared despondent in the early morning hours, but was quick to give Muhammad flowers.
He said, “I’m not surprised [I lost]. My body was tired from the first round.

“All week I have been feeling tired because of the weather.
“But I want to congratulate Belal, he did the job. And we’re going to get him back.”
He added: “I would like to have one more fight this year. Whenever the UFC wants. November or December, I’m ready to go.
“One more this year, I’m ready to go.”
An emotional Muhammad said of his stunning title turn: “It seems like all the people booing now have a lot of tears flowing from their eyes.
“I see you with teary eyes now.
“This is for my family, for my people in Palestine.”
