Kings coach Mike Brown helped turn the franchise around in a short space of time and apparently would like to be rewarded for his contributions.

From 2007 to 2022, the Kings went through 11 different coaches before Brown was hired ahead of the 2022-23 season. He won the NBA Coach of the Year award in his first season with Sacramento after helping the Kings overcome a 16-season playoff drought.
And despite missing the playoffs last season, several Kings players after the season pointed out and praised the consistency of the organization – from the players to the coaches to the front office.
Speaking to reporters in his season-ending interview, Brown reiterated his desire to remain in Sacramento long-term.
“Not really [top of mind this offseason]. I still have a year left on my contract, everyone knows that,” said Brown. “But I’m excited to be here. I’m excited about our future. So I’m going into this summer trying to figure out how we can be better next year. We’re disappointed we’re not playing and we feel like we left some things on the table.”
A coach publicly stating that he wants — and is excited — to be in Sacramento hasn’t been all that common over the years. But Brown didn’t shy away from publicizing it. And from the looks of it now, the players have wanted him as their coach for a long time.
What Kings ownership decides in the future will be public knowledge another day, but Kings general manager Monte McNair appears to be pleased with what Brown has done so far.
“As I said, you look at a two-year horizon, when coach Brown and his staff arrived, and [there are] a lot of positives,” McNair told reporters in his exit interview. “We’re certainly disappointed this year, and Mike and I are going to sit down and try to figure out how we get back to where we want to be.
