Draymond says KAT ‘lied’ about getting 1,500 shots a day originally appeared in NBC Sports Bay Area
Draymond Green, serving as an analyst for TNT, spent most of the 2024 Western Conference Finals targeting Rudy Gobert, center for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
But after the Timberwolves Game 3 loss to the Dallas Mavericksthe Warriors forward turned his attention to fellow Minnesota big man Karl-Anthony Towns, who after struggling in Sunday’s 116-107 loss, said he takes at least 1,500 shots a day during practice.
“Hey Ernie, do you know what a ‘cap’ is?” Green said on TNT’s “Inside the NBA” after Sunday’s game.
“Yes,” replied host Ernie Johnson.
“He’s lying,” Green said. “No one is firing 1,500 rounds a day right now.”
Fellow TNT analyst Kenny Smith, a 48 percent shooter during his 10-year NBA career, agreed with Green.
“I’m a shooter. I never shot. I hit,” Smith said. “So to do 300 a day, it takes about 45 minutes. So if you’re taking 1,500, it’ll take about two and a half hours. And you’re already practicing, so that’s the limit.”
Towns, an NBA All-Star this season and self-proclaimed greatest shooter, great man in NBA history, finished 5-of-18 from the field in the Timberwolves’ loss on Sunday, including 0-of-8 from 3-point range.
“I’m shooting 1,500 pitches a day and shooting really well all playoffs,” Towns told reporters after the game. “Confidence is extremely high and having these unfortunate jumps and these looks that just don’t work is tough. It’s tough, for sure. Confidence-wise, I just need to keep shooting.”
Green didn’t hold back on Towns when explaining what was wrong for the third-seeded Timberwolves.
“The problem with this is that I don’t really think [Anthony Edwards] dominated the ball,” Green said. “Actually, I think he took advantage of it too much. Now, KAT won’t have the same amount of minutes, seconds that Ant has the ball because he’s bringing it up. But I think when KAT touches the ball, he actually gets stuck more than when Ant had the ball.
“So, I don’t know. I mean, obviously he needs to get to the rim, but he just doesn’t answer the bell and that’s how KAT has been in his career, where when things get tough, they say he goes the other way. . So you have to figure it out.”

Towns, Gobert and the Timberwolves will try to avoid being swept by the Mavericks in Game 4 on Tuesday.
But if Towns and Gobert don’t perform well on Tuesday, expect Green to attack them hard.
