Isis Young, Krysten Peek, Lamar Hurd and Tom Haberstroh discuss Utah’s decision to select Cody Williams with the 10th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Video transcript

Well, Cody Williams’ dreams have come true, selected 10th overall by the Utah Jazz.

Fun fact, Cody Williams is the highest drafted Colorado player since Chauncey Billups spoke since 1997.

Great choice for Jazz KP.

I’ll start with you here.

I love, I love Cody Williams, the younger brother of Oklahoma City forward Jalen Williams.

We were two choices away from seeing the brothers reunited.

Will not happen.

He’s going to Utah.

What I love most about Cody is that he’s 19 years old.

It’s been a slow burn.

He slowly rose through the ranks in high school.

And so I think he’s going to be great on this rebuilding Jazz team.

He reminds me a lot of Mcdaniels, his defensive versatility with his length and how he can defend positions one through four with ease.

And we have to remember that he is 19 years old.

He is much further along than his brother was at this stage of his age.

And Jalen Williams will be a max signee.

OK. Yeah, when you look at this 19-year-old guy, he’s joining a team that last year drafted Taylor Hendricks and Kon George.

This is quite a team.

Those two picks are still 20 years old and then you have Cody Williams coming in in transition and spot ups, he was in the 80th percentile which means the top 20% in college basketball in transition and spot ups.

This is a great pick for the rebuilding and struggling Utah Jazz.

George and Taylor Hendrix.

They’re going to love playing with it based on everything you’re describing about it.

He fits into the way the Jazz already play and move.

They were second in the league last year in offensive rebound percentage.

Not because they had some great key rebounds.

They didn’t have Zack Edie there at KP.

They didn’t have any sides down there, but what they did have was a lot of movement in attack.

Lots of fluidity.

So they were difficult to box, they were moving targets.

He can play that way, play on the other side too.

I like to choose.

Okay, I like the versatility.

From what we’ve heard from this guy it sounds like Cody Williams has a good, really good west coast pickup.
