Why Draymond was ‘sad’ but excited about CP3’s move to Spurs originally appeared in NBC Sports Bay Area

Although Draymond Green is sad about Chris Paul leaving the Warriors, he is excited about his friend’s new show with the San Antonio Spurs.

In a recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” the Golden State veteran expressed his disappointment at Paul and the Warriors parting ways, but also his excitement to see the Point God team up with Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.

“Another one that makes me very sad is CP [Chris Paul],” said Green. “I don’t know if it’s documented how much we hated each other, but I’m very sad to hear that he’s leaving this team. Because in my head I’m like, ‘Man, to see CP finishing his career here, that would be awesome,’ and again that’s part of the business that sucks.

“One year with CP and I was like, ‘Man, I really love this guy, he’s amazing, one of the best teammates I’ve ever had,’ and then he was gone, and that’s the weird part of this business, but it makes me made me very sad. So between, like, the day I found out that Klay [Thompson] and CP [are leaving]I’ve been sad the last few days trying to process my thoughts.

“Still, CP, Pop [Spurs coach Gregg Popovich] He’s still a genius, joining CP with Wemby to teach that young man the way. CP is one of the best vets I’ve ever met and this is going to be great.”

After Golden State was unable to reach a suitable trade, the team waived Paul, freeing him to agree to a one-year contract worth $11 million. contract with Spurs. Pairing Paul with NBA Rookie of the Year Wembanyama will give San Antonio a strong threat on every possession and bring veteran stability to the young Spurs team.

Many expect Wembanyama to be the next dominant big man in the NBA, so Green is no doubt thrilled to see his friend paired with such a dynamic young player.

Still, it must hurt Green, as Paul and Thompson left Golden State in free agency, leaving the Warriors with plenty of roster questions for the rest of the offseason.
