Report: Warriors submitted ‘substantial’ Markkanen trade offer to Jazz originally appeared in NBC Sports Bay Area

While Dub Nation anxiously awaits updates on the Lauri Markkanen Business Sweepstakesgeneral manager Mike Dunleavy and the Warriors front office appear to have done their part in the effort to achieve the star ahead.

Golden State introduced the Utah Jazz a substantial offer for the NBA All-Star big man, Tony Jones of The Athletic confirmed Friday during an interview on 95.7 The Game.

“Golden State has an offer on the table and I feel like it’s a substantial offer,” Jones said. “The Jazz can only answer for themselves, for what they are looking for.”

Jones, who covers the Jazz, further explained that while current offers from Golden State and other teams are heavily rooted in draft picks, Utah could seek an additional asset, such as a promising young prospect, to grow with the franchise.

“I think the level of offerings available is substantial,” Jones said. “I think they are heavily choice-based. I think with some offers, one or two young players have the potential to grow throughout their career.”

While Golden State’s offer is reportedly strong, the path to reaching Markkanen could be complicated because of the draft capital the Warriors have at their disposal.

“I think one thing that complicates Golden State’s package is that they [the Warriors] there are essentially only two unprotected players from the first round, [2026 and 2028]” said Jones. “Look what Mikal Bridges bought a few weeks ago, he bought five [first-round picks], and there weren’t just five premieres. There were five debuts, more changes, more Bojan Bogdanović. I think all of that has to be taken into consideration when you think about what Lauri Markkanen could do.”

While Markkanen appears to be the Warriors’ big acquisition, both they and the Jazz aren’t desperate to make a deal right away. There will likely be a lot of back and forth between the two front offices, with prolonged negotiation certainly preceding any potential trade.
