Why Lacob and Warriors think ‘revelation’ Podz is future All-Star originally appeared in NBC Sports Bay Area
Brandin Podziemski was an emerging player for the Warriors during the 2023-24 NBA season, earning first-team All-Rookie honors for his efforts.
Many people in and around the Golden State organization believe the versatile guard also has more room to grow.
That belief starts right at the top, from owner Joe Lacob. In an interview during the Warriors victory in the NBA Summer League Wednesday against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Lacob was asked about what he saw from Podziemski in his rookie season.
“He was a revelation, to be honest,” Lacob responded. “We’re very excited. We think we have a future All-Star. We really do.”
Lacob’s praise didn’t stop there, explaining why the the team has such high expectations entering Podziemski’s second season.
“He started a lot of games for us. Steve [Kerr] had difficulty getting it off the ground; he had to put him on the ground, he was so good”, detailed Lacob. “He does so many things so well. He’s ultra-confident, he’s got an NBA body, he can get anywhere he wants. …What can’t he do?”
Podziemski did not play in Wednesday’s Summer League game, perhaps another indication of the high opinion the Warriors already have of him.
Given the offseason departures of Chris Paul and Klay Thompson, Golden State would love to see Podziemski take another leap.
On the other hand, the young guard often appears in Lauri Markkanen Trade RumorsSo Lacob’s comments could be an interesting indication of the Warriors’ willingness to part ways with Podziemski.
Regardless of the commercial possibilities, Lacob and his organization’s position in this rising star is clear.
