LeBron named flagbearer for Team USA at the Olympics after Steph’s nomination originally appeared in NBC Sports Bay Area
LeBron James received one of the biggest honors of his professional career on Monday and Steph Curry had a great hand in making it a reality.
The Los Angeles Lakers star will be one of the flag bearers of the USA team during the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday along the Seine River, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee announced Monday.
Curry nominated James for the role.
“On behalf of myself and the entire Olympic men’s basketball team, we would like to nominate LeBron James to be the flag bearer for the entire USA Team,” Curry said in the video. “We understand what an honor it is to be in this position and I think LeBron’s entire career on and off the court speaks for itself as he is worthy of this honor.
“He started in 2004 representing Team USA as an Olympian and now in 2024 he is looking for his fourth Olympic medal.
“But I think more than that, since 2004, he has represented what it means to be great, on and off the court, and his commitment to service and uplifting the community in every way he knows how. passion and, and the work speaks for itself.
“So between his ‘I Promise’ school, the LeBron James Foundation and everything he’s done to impact lives or not just in the U.S. but around the world, I think it puts him in a position to be worthy of this honor, let’s alone basketball [aspect].
“So once again, on behalf of myself and the entire team, we want to see him waving that flag.”

Not only did Curry nominate James, but he was also the one who told the future Hall of Famer he would carry the flag on Friday, doing so during a recent USA men’s basketball team reunion.
Curry, James and Team USA have one more Olympic warm-up game against Germany on Friday in London before heading to Paris.
After James leads the Team USA delegation to the opening ceremony, he will try to lead the men’s basketball team, along with Curry, Kevin Durant and nine other NBA stars, to the gold medal.
The US team will play three group stage games against Serbia on July 28, South Sudan on July 31 and Puerto Rico on August 3. All games will be played in Lille, France.
Curry and James have been NBA rivals for 15 years, but they are Team USA’s elder statesmen, uniting as teammates for the first time in a competition that means something.
If all goes according to plan, Curry and James — both born in the same Akron, Ohio, hospital — will return home next month with gold medals.
