The Giants begin the preseason on Thursday night against the Lions, and if it were up to quarterback Daniel Jones, he would be on the field.

Jones, who is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, says he wants to play, although coach Brian Daboll has not yet decided which players will be on the field on Thursday.

Yes, I would like to play,” said Jones, via New York Post Office. “At the end of the day, that’s the coach’s decision and I’ll do whatever Dabes thinks.”

Last year, Jones played one possession in the preseason. Starting quarterbacks typically don’t play in the preseason or see very limited action, and Jones said if he doesn’t play, he’ll still be ready for Week 1.

“I think we try to make practice as game-like as possible and get real reps at game speed to make sure you’re ready to go,” Jones said. “Regardless of what Dabes decides in this next game, I will be ready to go when I have the opportunity.”

Regardless of anything he does in the preseason, when the regular season begins, the Giants need Jones to be healthy and much better than he was last year.
