The Jets welcomed the Washington Commanders to town for a joint practice on Thursday, but unwelcome wet weather forced the quarterback Aaron Rodgers out of action.
Head coach Roberto Saleh decided to leave Rodgers out of Thursday’s practice due to the rainy conditions around Florham Park, taking the cautious route with the veteran quarterback.
It’s certainly easy to understand Saleh’s thinking: Why risk having your 40-year-old quarterback, who is coming off an Achilles injury, practice on a wet field? On the other hand, it would have been interesting to watch Rodgers coach against another NFL team, especially considering the four-time MVP likely won’t play in any of the Jets’ three preseason games before the regular season. premieres on September 9th.
Coming into training camp, Rodgers said he feels “great” physically, but knows the importance of this training camp as he hopes to get back to full speed in what will hopefully be his first full season in New York.
“I think it’s going to take a while,” Rodgers said at the start of camp. “I feel great. We’ve been tracking all the numbers where I’ve been working out West for a decade, and my movement is tracking exactly the same as last year. In fact, a little stronger with some of the squats we did. I just need the reps The last five percent of being 100 percent is just the mental part.
“In fact, having not played a full season, it will take a good training camp for me to feel like myself.”
