As the Brandon Aiyuk saga continues to unfold, the 49ers’ desire return in a negotiation that would send the 26-year-old to the Pittsburgh Steelers it was clear.
San Francisco is seeking a wide receiver in exchange for any trade involving Aiyuk, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported Wednesdayciting a league source.
While the 49ers’ preferred return for Aiyuk is a wide receiver, San Francisco would be open to a package headlined by a player at another position, Russini reported Thursday.

There is no resolution in sight to the ongoing saga as Aiyuk remains under contract with the 49ers, who have held discussions with several other teams regarding potential trades involving the wide receiver.
It remains to be seen whether there is a trade package tempting enough to get San Francisco to complete a trade for Aiyuk, but as of now the 49ers appear to be flexible regarding which positions could return in the deal for the All-Pro.
