The plane that took the Carolina Panthers home preseason game against the New England Patriots on Thursday left the taxiway at Charlotte Douglas Airport on Friday morning.
The Delta charter flight carrying players and staff skidded in the mud while taxiing after landing around 2:35 a.m., according to David Newton of ESPN. No one was injured in the incident, the team and airport said, and the airfield lighting and taxiway were fully operational. It is unclear what led to the incident.
Delta towed the plane out of the area about three hours later, and it took a bus about an hour to take the plane’s crew to the air hub.
“Delta 8860’s right main train departed the taxiway at Charlotte Douglas International Airport after a normal arrival,” Delta said in a statement, via ESPN. “No injuries were reported to the 188 customers disembarking and being transported by bus to the terminal. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
THE Patriots won 17-3 over the Panthers at Gillette Stadium on Thursday night as quarterback Drake Maye made his debut for New England. The Panthers only scored in the final two minutes on a 41-yard field goal by Harrison Mevis.
The Panthers, who went 2-15 last season and missed the playoffs for the sixth straight year, will open the regular season on Sept. 8 against the New Orleans Saints.
