Purdy recalls the moment he realized the fame of the NFL and the 49ers in the supermarket originally appeared in NBC Sports Bay Area
It’s safe to say that Brock Purdy is not the type of person who likes being the center of attention.
But his success as 49ers quarterback the last two NFL seasons have brought him a lot of attention, whether he likes it or not.
In a recent interview with KPIX 5’s Vern GlennPurdy’s unassuming nature was evident when asked about the first time he realized the extent of his fame.
“There were little things, but I guess I’m just trying to shop with my wife,” Purdy responded. “And then people see me, and we’re turning down the aisles, and there’s people coming, and I’m like, ‘Oh, man.’”
It’s a perfectly mundane incident that shouldn’t surprise any 49ers fan, given Purdy’s smooth personality off the field.
“We were just trying to get some groceries, and then there was a crowd of people in the supermarket trying to get autographs and this and that,” Purdy continued. “And I’m trying apologize to my wife. I’m like, ‘I’m sorry,’ try putting my hat on and putting on my hoodie or something – it’s that kind of thing going on.
Even though these situations aren’t very comfortable for Purdy, he appreciates the fans’ admiration.
“It’s not bad. It’s something I’m trying to be grateful for — loving people and meeting them where they are, within the enthusiasm, so it’s okay,” Purdy explained. “For my wife and I, we like to have a simple lifestyle. We don’t try to do too much.”
Again, if that’s not Brock Purdy in a nutshell, what is? And 49ers fans won’t complain, given his extraordinary talent on the field.
