Mike Macdonald: Seahawks will experiment a lot in off-season with new starting rule

The NFL’s new starting rule is one of the most significant rule changes in league history, and Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said there is no way for any team to be sure it is prepared for what its Week 1 opponent will do. .

Asked how much time the Seahawks need to spend on the new kickoff, Macdonald said, “I wish I had the right answer.”

“It’s an ongoing thing,” Macdonald said. “We have a lot of – I don’t want to say experimentation, but this is what works. It will be interesting to see because we’re not sharing secrets about how we will operate and we will have to adapt.”

The new initial rule represents a lot of work for coaches, but Macdonald said he’s excited about it.

“I hope it’s a really fun football game. I think that’s the spirit behind what everyone was trying to do,” he said. “We have a good chance to make a really exciting play.”
