Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford wants a new contract, but won’t let that keep him away from the Rams’ offseason program.
Rams coach Sean McVay said Stafford will participate in the Rams’ mandatory minicamp next week. This is no surprise, given that Stafford was present for volunteer work.
However, McVay said there is no word on the Rams and Stafford reaching an agreement.
“Same as last time we spoke,” McVay said when asked for an update on Stafford’s contract.
Asked if there had been any progress in agreeing between the Rams and Stafford on a new deal, McVay responded: “No. We’re just keeping everything in-house.”
The best way for players to use their leverage to get a new contract is to retain their services unless and until they get that contract. It’s something Stafford could do, but apparently something he won’t do.
