Stephon Gilmore Supports Bill Belichick After Watching ‘The Dynasty’ originally appeared in NBC Sports Boston
Apple TV+’s “The Dynasty” docu-series, which chronicles the New England Patriots’ 20 years of unprecedented success, has failed to please several key members of the historic run.
The most common criticism of the 10-part series is the negative portrayal of former coach Bill Belichick. Controversial issues such as his deteriorating relationship with quarterback Tom Brady, his friendship with former President Donald Trump and Malcolm Butler’s bizarre Super Bowl bench have overshadowed the legacy he built as arguably the greatest coach in NFL history.
Many ex-patriots, including Julian Edelman, Matthew Slater, Devin McCourty and Rodney Harrison ripped “The Dynasty” for focusing on the negatives. On Friday, Stephon Gilmore joined the list of players who believe Belichick has been portrayed unfairly.
After completing the series, the former Pats cornerback took to social media praising his former coach. You can read his posts below:
I just watched Dynasty. Bill was the best coach I ever knew. Don’t be fooled. I will never forget that we were a predominantly male team from the 2018 season until the Super Bowl. When we played the Rams, we switched to the Zone.

No coach would change what he did all season in a big game like this

Or Him telling me to play buffalo trail technique because the Quarterback can’t throw into the wind when I was following a big receiver. If you’ve ever played corner, it’s not a good feeling to play trail technique. I turned off WR for 0 catches.

Episode 10 of “The Dynasty” highlighted Belichick’s spectacular coaching performance against the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII. As Gilmore mentions, Belichick changed his defense from man to zone and limited the Rams’ high-powered offense to just three points. Gilmore played a key role with a timely interception in the 13-3 victory, which marked the sixth and final Super Bowl title of the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era.
Gilmore enjoyed the most productive period of his 12-year career with Belichick as head coach. In addition to becoming a Super Bowl champion, the 33-year-old was named 2019 Defensive Player of the Year and received both All-Pro nods in New England.
“The Dynasty” didn’t paint Belichick in the best light, but he’ll get a chance to tell his side of the story. According to a recent report, he is currently writing a book while spending time away from the sideline.
