This will be Cameron Heyward’s 14th season in the NFL. He played all 14 seasons in Pittsburgh.
The Steelers defensive lineman, however, also wants an extension on a contract that pays him $16 million this year. He wants to play three more years.
Therefore, there is a possibility that Heyward could finish his career elsewhere, something he recently admitted.
But last week, Steelers fans didn’t like his addressing the possibility to finish his career in Cleveland, where he has a family and his wife is a native. This prompted Heyward to post a statement on social media on Sunday.
“The goal is to be a Steeler for the rest of my career,” Heyward wrote. “Anyway, on a more important front, happy Father’s Day everyone.”
Heyward has previously said he wants to be a “one-helmet guy” but is obviously frustrated with the pace of negotiations as he stayed away from the offseason program. The Steelers, as an organizational policy, stop contract negotiations once the season begins.
The team’s first-round pick in 2011, Heyward is scheduled to become a free agent in 2025.
