Patrick Mahomes’ New Coors Light Commercial Will Be Buried Until He Retires; When will be this?

When I spoke to the Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes After last December’s win over the Patriots, he had to ask himself if he was 27 or 28.

He is 28 years old. He will be 29 on September 17th. And as he approaches 30, questions about how long he will play are inevitable.

They are inevitable for two other reasons. First, Mahomes’ latest ad for Coors Light, which has a recent habit of shamelessly tiptoeing around the ban on active players doing beer commercials, says the commercial will be placed in a time capsule until Mahomes retire.

So when will that be? He will pull one Tom Brady and play until age 45?

This leads to the second reason. Via Marca.com, Mahomes’ mother recently suggested on a podcast that Patrick might not stick around until he turns 90.

“I hear him, you know, make comments like, ‘If gambling drives my kids away, I may not play as much as Tom Brady‘, and I’m like — I’m so proud of him for that,’ Randi Mahomes said on Mom’s game podcast.

Much of that may depend on whether he can match Brady’s seven Super Bowl victories before Mahomes reaches 40. In six years as a starter, he has three rings; his floor is losing in overtime of the AFC Championship. Maybe Mahomes will be content to get to seven (or eight) and walk away.

Another factor will be whether Mahomes can find the right balance between football and family. Eventually, everything got out of hand for Brady. Mahomes might figure out how to prioritize family without hurting football.

Regardless, Mahomes is expected to field a lot of questions about his long-term plans.
