Aiyuk Explains Why He Made 49ers ‘Don’t Want Me Back’ Comment originally appeared in NBC Sports Bay Area
On June 16, Star 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk posted a TikTok video with the caption: “I’m laughing, but I’m crying [for real].”
In the video, Aiyuk told close friend and Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, “They said they don’t want me back… I swear,” about the All-Pro’s slow contract negotiations with San Francisco.
Aiyuk surprisingly explained what the 49ers told him before his TikTok post in a Friday appearance on Podcast “The Pivô” with co-hosts Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder and Fred Taylor.
“They told me they didn’t think we were on the same page and they didn’t believe we were, and that was it at that point,” Aiyuk said. “But it’s part of the contract negotiations.”
Aiyuk’s initial post made the situation seem much darker than he indicated on Friday.
Although the two parties appear far from an agreement, San Francisco and its team leading in receiving yards remain focused on expanding their dynamic partnership.
The 26-year-old mentioned that he and his girlfriend, Rochelle Searight, have been documenting much of the summer, so their moment was captured on camera. A great player on the field, Aiyuk is trying to be a storyteller off it.
“We’re starting to do our own filming, recording everything,” Aiyuk said. “Just enjoying the process. Make my lady record things, record everything that is happening so I can remember it. It’s an exciting time. It’s stressful, but it’s exciting.
“I want to have these memories. And that was just one moment she captured. I got off the phone with the Niners, they told me what they told me, I passed that information on to [Daniels].”
Aiyuk’s NFL future remains a mystery, but at least the TikTok drama appears dead. Now the Faithful must wait and see if Aiyuk guess about your next team it’s needed.
