The Giants are eight days away from the first practice of training camp, and all eyes are on quarterback Daniel Jones.
He underwent surgery on November 22 to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Jones was a limited participant in the team’s offseason program, and the Giants will likely be deliberate in handling his return to team practice in training camp.
He said on Bleav Podcast Network’s “Simms Complete” that his rehabilitation has been “very smooth,” with “no real setbacks.”
“Right now, I’m doing practically everything — run, cut, whatever I need to do,” Jones told father-son co-hosts Phil and Matt Simms, via Ryan Dunleavy of New York Post Office.
Jones’ only competition this season is with himself, as the Giants haven’t used their first-round pick on a quarterback. He is expected to have $47.8 million against the salary cap and is under pressure to perform well enough to remain with the team beyond 2024.
“I expect a lot from myself, I expect a lot from the team,” Jones said, “and what’s going on out there isn’t necessarily something that’s going to motivate me.”
