In the age of social media, it’s easy for anyone to make something up, pass it off as news, and watch it spread. In the world of the NFL, there have been a growing number of social media accounts that do not do actual reporting but rather pretend to have inside information.

Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders took down one of those suitors.

Responding to a viral report claiming he has a list of six NFL teams he would prefer to play for when he is drafted next year, Sanders asked a simple question: “When I said that?”

Sanders never said that. If he has a preferred list of teams he hopes will sign him, he can communicate it as the draft approaches, as Eli Manning did before persuading the Chargers to trade him after drafting him. But that’s not something Sanders said.

Sanders is the betting favorite to be the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, so he will be the subject of much more reporting and social media posts. Football fans looking to stay up to date with news about Sanders entering the draft should consider the source.
