Purdy wants ‘Tom Brady’ feeling as he leads 49ers to dominant wins originally appeared in NBC Sports Bay Area

Now entering his third season in the NFL, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is focused on changing his attitude and mindset.

Exclusively with the Michael Silver of the San Francisco ChroniclePurdy described his change in mindset and approach.

“With such a good team we have, I want to get to the point where we get to the third quarter, there are some drives that are crucial, I’m on top of my stuff, we convert on third downs, and we score touchdowns and the lead gets out of control.” , Purdy said to Silver. “It’s having that Tom Brady-type feeling. At the end of the game, it always seemed like Tom would just take over and not come close. I feel like I can achieve that.”

Purdy further explained to Silver that he wants to be more assertive in his game creation.

“I want to be dominant,” Purdy told Silver. “Not just win games and feel like, ‘Eh.’ I want to be dominant with consistent decisions and feel like we are the best every day.

“There were times in games last year where I just — I don’t know what it was like in that situation — but we were standing up and I was like, ‘Alright, be smart with the ball,’ or ‘Let’s just make sure we don’t make mistakes. I want to get through this and get to that point where I’m dominant, for four quarters, man. That’s my mindset.”

Purdy had an exceptional sophomore campaign in the NFL, leading San Francisco to Super Bowl LVIII and setting the franchise record for passing yards in a single season.

Still, there were plenty of shaky moments against the league’s best teams, especially the Kansas City Chiefs in the 49ers Super Bowl defeat. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s defensive schemes made life difficult for Purdy, who struggled to make big plays down the stretch as Kansas City cruised to the overtime win.

Now entering the final year of his cheap rookie contract, Purdy and San Francisco are in win-now mode. Given the recent record-breaking contracts of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Green Bay Packers signal-caller Jordan Love, Purdy will receive a big payday as soon as he is eligible for a new agreement.

Although the 23-year-old’s meteoric rise since his last international selection 2022 NFL Draft To become one of the league’s best quarterbacks was remarkable, many experts still believe Purdy is overrated, with his success a result of Kyle Shanahan’s coaching acumen and the superstar offensive talent that surrounds him.

After his first fully healthy offseason, Purdy will look to silence the doubters and lead San Francisco to its long-awaited sixth Vince Lombardi Trophy.
